The global LED lighting market attained a value of $48 Bn. in 2019 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 12% during the forecast period 2020-2025. The widespread use of LEDs could save about 348 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity as compared with conventional lights. This equals an annual electric output of 44 large electric power plants with 1000 MW each and total savings of >$30 Bn. at today’s electric prices.

Wireless Control System:
Smart lighting is all about wireless connectivity that can share information, facilitate interoperation, and support interacting between lighting nodes within the network. The control systems that were inside a box earlier have now evolved into wireless remote control eliminating the need for messy cables and enhances mobility.
This wireless communication uses open protocols like Bluetooth, Zigbee, WiFi, and others. The lighting network typically operates on an RF between 100MHz and 5.8 GHz. The major lighting infrastructure used for device communication consists of a driver for translating the effect of control signal into output. A controller that assigns commands to the driver based on the inputs from connected sensors and a wireless communication module that’s integrated with the controller to provide two-way communications
Human-Centric Lighting (HCL)
HCL solutions can support the human circadian rhythm, enhance concentration, prevent sleeping disorders, and improve our overall well-being because light stimulates and influences our moods and activity levels. The introduction of tunable white light with advanced control systems is the new upcoming trend in applications like commercial lighting, hospitality lighting, educational institutes, and hospitals.
This technology allows the user to adjust the intensity and the color temperature of the light to mimic a natural lighting cycle. Indoor lights with more blue or high color in the morning and warm low-level lights with high amber and red components in the evening to simulate the circadian cycle. HCL systems thus play an important role in enhancing our performance, productivity, and moods.
India’s Lighting Future:
The Indian LED market alone is expected to reach $2.9 Bn. by end of 2020. The annual sales of 5Mn. bulbs per year in 2014 has grown to about 670 Mn. in 2018. This resulted in an annual energy saving of about 30 TWh that is roughly enough to power 28 Mn. average Indian households. 
By 2030, it is expected that there will be close to 70 Bn. light points in the world. In homes of 2030, lighting will be able to blend with everything from the doorbell to television and music, fully adjustable to individual preferences. Thus, the lighting industry holds significant potential for opportunities with the wireless technological advancements contributing to energy conservation and improving human health
