The hyper-scale data center market is expected to grow to $80.65 billion by 2022 at a CAGR of 26.32%. There are more than 500 hyper-scale data centers in the world. When we’re discussing hyper-scale, we’re speaking of 500 cabinets in at least 10,000 sq ft area. The largest data center has a memory capacity of around 1.56ZB that usually comprises of minimum 5,000 servers linked with an ultra-high-speed, high-fiber count network. Latest SSD’s in data centers with high-density NAND with up to 3.84TB capacities make a shift by eliminating all spinning disks. A single SSD can outperform multiple spinning disks and consumes less power. Servers and data centers have two options of choosing an SSD, one is a fast-reliable SATA SSD (read/write speed 600MB per second) which offers the benefits of hot-swap, flexible redundancy options and scaling. And the other is a high-performance AIC NVMe drives (read/write speed that’s 2000MB per second) which offers the fastest throughput via NAND technology. SSD’s also help in consolidating servers and reduce the storage racks’ overall physical footprint.
Emerging HAMR Drive Technology
HAMR drives are simple to integrate and operate. The HAMR drive was designed to enable to store huge amount of data using magnetic technology on each disk. It allows data bits, grains to become smaller and densely packed, while remaining magnetically stable. A small laser diode attached to the recording head heats a tiny spot on the disk to flip the magnetic polarity of each stable bit, enabling data to be written.
India likely to be the Next Hyper-Scale Data Center Destination
India is one of the fastest-growing digitization markets and it’s projected to reach between $350 to $400 billion by 2022.
